 David Caldo
http://davidcaldo.co.uk | About My Writing David Caldo has just completed his latest novel, 'Florentine Masque', a mystery story set in 14th Century Tuscany. '... positively splendid entertainment. A rip-roaring, page-turning, exuberant and delightful Italian romp.' - American freelance editor: Ilene Shapera Fenton. ' ... I have almost nothing but praise for it. It’s the right length for a first novel. The settings are brilliantly realised, and I could almost see and hear the sights and sounds of 14th century Tuscany. The characters are well-developed: the nice guys are sympathetic and the baddies are wonderfully vile.' - The Romantic Novelists' Association New Writers Scheme I have invested three years researching the period and the area, both by reading the literature and physically on the ground. The latter included some weeks last summer spent on horseback, riding through the wild mountains of the Maremma from one medieval village to the next. I am currently laying out the structure of a second novel in the life of my four protagonists (a bother and sister and their respective lovers), tentatively to be called Florentine Gold, and I expect more to follow. | Authors' Register: | About My Background I have a PhD from Cambridge University and, before that, degrees in Law and in Engineering from Trinity College, Dublin. The bulk of my career has been spent running my own high-technology research company doing projects for various commercial firms and the Ministry of Defence. I am married with three grown-up children and I live in Hampshire. |
